I don't mean this as a slight to anyone here, it's usually a thing I notice in regular people, but they tend to appreciate the frame more than the picture. Meaning, somewhere along the ways regular joe was taught about HD this and 6 foot displays and whatnot and they seem to fetishize it over the actual content. If they walked into a museum they'd pick apart the frame of the Mona Lisa instead of marveling at the image itself. Everyone these days is an arm chair connoisseur. They have the latest and greatest displays but are watching sports and Taco Bell commercials. The quality of their frame is superfluous.

I grew up watching a 9-inch black and white television that me and my sister had to share. I also played my Atari and NES games on it and it was years before I saw video games in color. I still don't sweat the random VHS transfer if it's the only way to see a specific title. I count myself lucky to be able to get a hold of all these wonderful titles from the far reaches of time and space.

The comic forum I'm on has a similar fetish regarding book binding and reproduction. People will buy the same book dozens of times over just to get the one copy that lays perfectly flat, or has had the the absolute perfect reproduction this time for sure like there won't be another updated copy a few years down the road. Pictures of their bookshelves often show multiple high end books still in shrink wrap. Where the enjoyment in that?

I do get that if you pay for something you should expect to get your money's worth but sometimes it's taken to such an extreme I can't imagine the amount of enjoyment is equal to the price and time invested sweating the little stuff.

Again, not trying to target anyone specific here, just something I've noticed in various fandoms. Hell, when I go into a MJ dispensary or a liquor store I see people holding products up to the light and complaining about minute flaws and making royal declarations regarding the quality. And these are winos and pot heads. (as am I)

Well to me there's a clear difference in grain (is it just because of filtering or worse encoding I don't know). And some of the code red shots have some problems (because of filtering). In the screenshot with the old man shooting, the smoke coming from the gun is messed up. The other screenshot with shooting also has the smoke messed up all around and even some of the bushes. And the screenshot with the man falling down has all kinds of artifacts all around the image... shirts, hands, head, trees, pitchfork, all have lots of problems.

There's not a huge difference between those screenshots. All I see is the CR is a hair darker when I click between the two. Definitely not worth me double-dipping.

If Diabolik has it & I'm itchin' to spend money then there's always that chance, though.

    "update:
Film Art has revealed the negative is exactly the same as Code Red's Blu, they will add in inserts for the missing seconds. The extra bits were not part of the negative and were for limited overseas distribution and were only available in a positive print that has gone south. "

That's good news for all involved. I'm happy with the CR release & it's nice to know it's the way it should be. I'll just keep the dvd-r for those extra bits, which, I'll never watch again (most likely).

Aha, so the extended scenes will probably be inserts from an SD source then? But I don't quite understand if the longer scenes were in the film during its original Italian theatrical run? If the OCN doesn't include them, it feels as though the version released by Code Red is in fact not cut per se, but is actually the theatrical presentation of the film.
