  • Shout! Factory Releasing Night Of The Sorcerers / The Loreley's Grasp Blu-ray!

    From FB:

Fans of vintage Spanish films take note: We have a new Blu-ray double-feature coming this Summer featuring two 1974 films from the Director of The Blind Dead Series!

THE NIGHT OF THE SORCERERS: A group of explorers arrive in Africa to study the wildlife in the same area where a brutal native ritual occurred in 1910. All is tranquil until night falls and distant drumming draws one of the female members of the group to investigate the jungle. From there, a nightmare will be awakened … a nightmare of zombie natives and scantily-clad vampire women who prowl the moonlight jungle in search of fresh blood and more victims to sacrifice.

THE LORELEY'S GRASP: In a town by the Rhine river, young women are turning up dead … savagely torn to pieces and their hearts missing. Concerned that whatever beast is doing these horrible murders will end up attacking the female students, a nearby school for women hires a hunter to find and kill the creature. The hunter will soon find out that this is no ordinary beast that craves human hearts, but rather a deceptive, alluring and mysterious being - The Loreley - who is already looking for another heart to use in a gruesome ancient ritual.

Official street date is July 18th but you can get it shipped two weeks early if you order directly from us @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/fi...n=jnSorcerers1

All of a sudden I am liking Scream Factory much more than usual.

If we are lucky, SORCERERS may be a tiny bit more complete than the BCI release, which was missing some dialog.

I remember Night Of The Sorcerers to be an epic snoozefest. Despite my huge fondness for Kali Hansa I couldn't stay awake. Never seen the other film.

are they fucking serious? it's 1:1 the same abomination like that german upscale blu released 3 years ago.
They couldn't even be bothered to correct that obvious day-for-night shot:

I don't think it's an upscale, however these Victory Spanish releases were likely HD scans scanned lower than 2k (1k? 720?).

If its the same masters as the DVDs ill probably skip the 1st Naschy set (though what is up with the reviews saying the transfers look excellent etc?)This one would still be worth it to me for Night of the Sorcerers as i never got the DVD and ill definately be getting the volume 2 set as those are some previously unreleased shizzle (and ill assume they wont be re-using the Mya Hunchback transfer lol)

The scans are old but some look much better than others.
Scream put too much trust in Victory ( and got burnt ) and is taking more care with Volume 2.

LORELEY is the same as the German disc, but that's all they were offered ( and it's a shit transfer ). HORROR RISES is the same master Subkultur released.
SORCERERS looks pretty good, I see some scanner noise on it but over all pretty sharp and much better than LORELEY.

Naschy Blu's are similar, some of the transfer look pretty good @ 1080p. The mix up on BLUE YES is unfortunate but greater care will be given to the films in Vol 2.
I think the first set is worth a buy but am even more excited about Vol 2.

I would argue that Vol. 1 is worth a buy if a person doesn't already have the BCI DVDs; ironically, the only one that's unwatchable is BLUE EYES.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Yes, of course it is. It's also worth upgrading if you have the dvd's and are a fan. Most display nice, if small, bumps up in image.
The films in Vol might get another release sometime but it's not likely to be soon.

How is BLUE EYES unwatchable? Not thrilled with full screen or the mixed up editing of the love scene...but unwatchable?
It's one of the better looking transfers.

I was referring to the DVD of BLUE EYES.
