  • The Amicus Films Thread

We've got a few different Hammer threads going but nothing for Amicus.

With Eureka having announced The Skull and Kino having put out Madhouse, now's the time.

So yeah, The Skull is coming from Eureka in Sept.

    Love the cover art!

I wonder if this and The Man Who Could Cheat Death will be better looking than the US blu rays. These two films rank high on my favorites list and the US versions are a little soft.

Speaking of Amicus. I was mightily impressed with the quality of restoration on the Land that time forgot blu. Was a bit hit and miss right up until they reached the Island but then it just looked very good indeed. A Childhood fave so very happy.

That cover art is terrific, so much better than the US one. Never upgraded from DVD so I might have to get this. It's one of my favorites as well.

House That Dripped Blood is streaming -- in HD -- at Shout's site. Perhaps it's coming from them in the future too?

            From Odeon's FB page:

"Dr Terror Blu-ray Steelbook artwork nearly complete! Limited numbered edition of 4,000 being released along with a new documentary on the film, directed by Jake West (Razor Blade Smile, Doghouse, Video Nasties) called House of Cards."

I love me some Amicus, but The Skull is not one of those loves. Cushing and Lee are fantastic actors, but this one almost put me to sleep with excessive wire flotation and skull-cam.

I already own this movie, but I think this steel book might be a purchase. Looks cool.

I'm not interested in paying more for a steelbook, so I'm assuming a regularily packaged version will also be made available.

I'm also hopeful that this will get a domestic release sooner rather than later.

So I'm going to wait a bit before plunking down on this one.

On another note, here are some screen grabs from the documentary that will be included on the disc.

Odeon mentioned that a standard version will follow but probably not until 2016.

I'm going to opt for Odeon's DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS, but I'll definitely pick up THE DEADLY BEES. I just read the novel on which it's based, A TASTE FOR HONEY by H.F. Heard, last week!

Got an early look at the booklet for the upcoming Eureka Blu-ray release of The Skull - not only is there a really solid essay in there but there's a whole lot of press book and advertising materials too. It's a little thing maybe, but little things add up and I'm glad to see some care being put into this release. Flawed or not, I love The Skull.
