Yeah, if I recall correctly, the director of FUNNY GAMES seemed to be a little more explicit in his contempt for the audience.

Yeah, I don't think he really cares what the 'fan' think of course, his films are pretty confrontational for a reason, but I recall him not criticizing the audience so much as the use violence in films for thrills. In the same interview he talks about his love of Spaghetti Westerns despite their violence too. A SW from Haneke would be pretty badass actually.
