This coming from Arrow in the UK in Feb. 2018.

The second feature film from German provocateur Jí¶rg Buttgereit, director of Nekromantik and Nekromantik 2, Der Todesking (“The King of Death”) presents seven suicides across seven days of the week.

As a chain letter from the self-proclaimed “Brotherhood of the 7th Day” circulates encouraging its recipients to end their lives, a series of grim murder-suicides unfold. In one vignette, a young woman massacres a room of concert-goers before turning the gun on herself; in another, a man, driven to madness by some unspecified mental disturbance, repeatedly slams his head into a wall before collapsing in a pool of his own blood… These are just some of depictions of death and despair that make up the tortured fabric of Der Todesking.
Regarded by many as director Jí¶rg Buttgereit's most accomplished work, Der Todesking is an existential masterpiece - a powerfully haunting howl of rage from one of the genre's most underrated filmmakers.

This will be mine. Have been waiting forever. Der Todesking is Buttgereit's best film, and nice to see Arrow, like Cult Epics, include the documentary Corpse Fucking Art.

Der Todesking is very good (when you're in the right frame of mind) but I think Buttgereit's best is either Nekromantik 2 or Schramm.

Nice to see someone else share this sentiment. It might lack the sensationalism and black humor of the more famous “loving dead” duo but given the material, the more low-key and morose tone works wonders. The idea of death as a chain letter is fascinating and its a very interesting film stylistically too. Still grimy and underground but you see him getting more ambitious as well, ie the "Thursday" segment" and the POV of "Saturday".

I feel like Der Todesking is the one film out of Buttgereit's that shows the most coherent and well constructed vision. It's almost like a rosetta stone for Buttgereit's cinematic language and thematic obsessions.
