Huh. The guy who directed A Bittersweet Life (which I loved) and A Tale Of Two Sisters (which was pretty but slow) with the dudes from Old Boy and The Good, The Bad And The Weird. Keen.
Yup. The first half is a bit slow but it errupts into an awesome Woo-style finale and has a lot of good, brooding drama along the way.
Surprisingly, I don't think it ever got a legit release stateside (I have the Korean one) but it got bootlegged pretty quickly and is easy enough to find.
That's like the coolest simile ever, because it's true. Both are great actors and can do amazing serious work, but both do great OTT bad guys.
I must see this film -- I see it's not long been released on BD in the UK in the 144m version. I shall investigate, soon...
The sheer determination of Lee Byung-hun's character makes this one for me, which is an interesting contrast to Choi Min-Sik's completely unrepentant asshole of a bad guy. It's pretty cool the way the movie parallels the two, and the movie is very clever in that way, in addition to being impressively violent.
