I'm fairly unfamiliar with Negishi, only seen 2 of his (looking forward to seeing Distant Thunder eventually though, and perhaps something else(recommendations?), i've seen Female Teacher: Dirty Afternoon and Wet Weekend.. enjoyed both as i recall it propably Female Teacher slightly more).

Welcome to the forum. A great place to discuss pink films in general and especially Roman Porno. I haven't watched RED VIOLATION yet but it's on my list and I'm looking really forward to it!

Hey thanks - For me Red Violation fell under the average category, well shot, easy to sit through - but for me personally nothing really exciting about the story or any setpieces in particular.

Nice list. If I'd had to choose for me it would also be Konuma and Tanaka. Maybe also a few of the later directors like Kichitaro Negishi or Kaneko Shusuke, but I still have to see more of their work to be sure. Konuma is pretty much hit or miss with every film but he must have been the Director with the highest output working practically from the very beginning until almost the end of the Roman Porno era for Nikkatsu and so naturally he shot quite a number of good to great movies throughout that time period.

I never really warmed up to Sone Chusei, who overall probably is my least favorite director out of the most prominent Roman Porno directors. Oh, and I'd also add Tatsumi Kumashiro to the list. I had problems with his movies in the beginning but they really grew on me with repeated viewings and I see myself returning to them more and more often nowadays.

I'd agree about Sone, perhaps id put Koyu Ohara next to him, so far, out of the more prominent that is, apart from the couple of ones I enjoy which haven't been the best of their category either. Willing to rewatch a couple from both though..

Talking about things to see, would love to eventually see Banmei Takahashi's and the one Wakamatsu flick in the roman porno series.

Kumashiro for me has been on both sides of the spectrum so far - comedyvise i found Pleasure Campus: Secret Games hilarious and Painful Twist! Final Bliss! on the other hand a bore (missed this one in my worst ones). Lovers are Wet is partly a visual treat, and that's usually what makes it intresting for me to explore full director filmographies or to come back for more.

I highly disagree with you on both PINK HIP GIRL and SHINJUKU MESSY DISTRICT, especially the latter may be one of my personal favorites. Quite interesting how much tastes differ from person to person here regarding Roman Porno movies.

Yes is amazingly broad! Hell, i find myself looking for 'movies similiar to movies', but i think when watching another roman porno it's never gonna be quite the same - well that and the general high quality output, i think is what makes it appealing to me.

It is usually my arms and shoulders that are aching after I return from Japan. The roughest aspect is trying to lift my carry-on onto the over-window rack on the Keisei Main Line train to Narita Airport. (I don't want other passengers stumbling over it on the train car floor. But it is generally quite heavy, and my arms are not as strong as my legs. Plus, I have mere seconds to do this before the train leaves the Aoto station.)

Haha ... will tell you about this from my perspective when I got home from Japan after my next trip. Question is wether my purchases will be more, heavier and tougher to transport than all the Omiyage I have to take with me from Vienna on my way to Japan

Sounds like Vienna is quite well set up for retros relatively speaking to a lot of cities. Even in Southern California, where I live, sex- or Roman Porno-ccentric retros are not that common. Would have loved to see WET DESIRE on 35mm. I saw IN THE REALM decades ago.
