It's a film I like a lot as it focuses on a rapist (Ren Osugi) who works as a projectionist at a porno theater. Dozens of great posters are seen in several scenes. It's very nihilistic and brutal at times, and way above the typical standards of similar fare. Plays like a Nikkkatsu pic, but has something more, is less prescribed.

Very well shot, too. Cinematographer Yasushi Sasakibara also shot KITARO, THE BRUTAL HOPELESSNESS OF LOVE, RICA 2, Kitano's VIOLENT COP, RAMPO, and FREEZE ME, amongst others.

There is a Japanese DVD, which is average.

I'd love to have a BluRay of this.

Produced by Shishi, distributed by Shintoho theatrically and on VHS, but Interfilm on DVD.

Opinions from others. For me, a minor classic.
Yes, I'm a big fan of Takita's early works too. Also, enjoyed HIGH NOON RIPPER. Would love to have a blu ray version of either film. Judging by the caps, looks like I have the same version as you.

    • Ended the night on a couple Korean cinema high notes with revisits of Lee Hae-joon's 2009, CASTAWAY ON THE MOON & Kwak Kyung-taek's 2011, PAINED. Both star actress, Jung Ryeo-won and she is superb in both. She really plays the emotionally scarred social outsider type character so well. I remember walking out the theater after watching CASTAWAY...and thinking it was one of my top movies of the year. I didn't quite have the same feeling with PAINED but it was good too in its own right. The scene where Jung Ryeo-won and Kwon Sang-woo first consummate their relationship with intercourse was just shot beautifully & the awkward silence between couples afterward with Jung Ryeo-won sitting on the toilet lost in thought was so palpable.

      • Loved CASTAWAY. Haven't seen PAINED. Must remedy that.

Do you have a DVD or VHS of HIGH NOON RIPPER?

        • I don't have a physical copy, just a rip of it.

            • Some days, you're just in the mood for pixelated sex scenes, crude gore effects and a woman pleasuring herself with her husband's freshly severed arm. Yup, today was one of those days, so I pulled out Toshiki Sato's RED ACCOUNT: MY BLOODY ANGEL.

              • Holy cow!

That looks like something I need to see
That severed arm but was done in one of the 'entrails' movies..
Not sure the cup noodle company would be happy with the product placement in that screen..although, being Japan they might love it!!!!

                • Speaking of bloody arms, I watched Entrails of a Virgin last night. I like the first film more. EoaV is mostly interesting for the fisting & wrestling scenes.

I agree that the artwork for both films is the best.

Yep...I loved the way he managed to randomly squeeze some wrestling in the movie for no reason at all..made me laugh...I predicted (wrongly) that someone would pull out some wrestling moves on the monster at the end..

It's definitely not essential viewing. Not sure the payoff will be worth it for you to search it out. It's Guinea Pig level effects with an inane non-existent plot with only the last 10 minutes worthy of any sort of recommendation for gorehounds. But yeah, that Cup O' Noodles juxtaposed with the dude's head says Japan like nothing else.

I decided to watch a couple of flicks using the trope of human flesh used in Asian dishes ala Bunman, Dumplings, Something's in my soup, etc. The first was utterly forgettable, CRUEL RESTAURANT (2008) by Koji Kawano of Undead Pool fame. The less said about this film the better. It's 13% rating at rottentomatoes is way too generous. The second was the Thai horror flick, MEAT GRINDER - uncut version (2009) & this was surprisingly quite good. A real plot here with a great acting job by the lead actress, Mai Charoenpura. man, I have to say those noodles did look delicious the way the poor saps were slurping them down. ^_^

Since you're into Thai horror, thought I would ask if you've ever seen Paween Purijitpanya's BODY 19 aka BODY? I've seen the director's anthology work in 4bia and the writer's previous work, 13: GAME OF DEATH but never got around to catching this one tho'.

                          • Caught the 2015 Korean black comedy & satirical film, COLLECTIVE INVENTION earlier. It had the potential to be something memorable but I feel the director, Oh Kwang-kwon tried to do too much with the premise. A thinly veiled social commentary about the 'ills' plaguing modern capitalist Korean society is fine and dandy but at least make the movie interesting, entertaining or funny. unfortunately, this movie failed in that respect for the most part. well, at least Park Bo-young was as cute as ever as the scheming one night stand -- so it wasn't a total waste. ^_^

                            • Was browsing some of my directors folders on my HTPC and came across a Masaru Tsushima one. It has LEGEND OF THE DEVIL, LADY NINJA - REFLECTIONS OF DARKNESS, THE HAUNTED LANTERN but the one that caught my eye was LADIES IN TORTURE I & II (1994-1995). Meh, wasn't that good. Tried to capture the essence of Ishii's Joy of Torture series and Makino's Cruel Map of women's bodies & pinku films of that ilk but it's not even an homage to the spirit of those films but merely a crude retelling.

                              • Caught a double bill today with Kon Ichikawa's dark battle of the sexes comedy, TEN DARK WOMEN. This would make a great addition to a future Eclipse box set.

Then I checked out Norifumi Suzuki's FESTIVAL CHAMP with Hiroki Matsukata playing against type. No stoic yakuza here and that's a good thing! Some hilarious sex hijinks & a lot of goofball comedy reminiscent of the Truck Yaro series. I sure wish I had a better looking print of this though.
