  • Mad Monkey Kung Fu is going to be censored on the Region B release (I assume it'll be like other cut Arrow releases, where it is the same disc. so if played on a Region A machine it will be uncut, and if played on a Region B machine it will be censored.)

      • So convenient that the delay of a finished product pushes just outside of the presumed B&N 50% off sale in November.

        • Watched both Boxer's Omen and Mercenaries From Hong Kong in the last 24 hours.

Boxer's Omen is nuts. Nuttier than I remember maybe. It has more puke eating in it than I remember at least. Any movie with an evil flying head is a good on in my books. Had a lot of fun revisiting this. Boobs on glass!

Mercenaries From Hong Kong was a first time watch for me, at least I think it was, because I remember absolutely nothing about it. Anyway, it's 95 minutes of really entertaining nonsense. Pretty violent, lots of shooting, some explosions, some odd politically correct humor, a little bit of nudity and some rad stunts. The story is goofy and the twists are pretty ridiculous but it's hard not to have a good time with a movie like this.

          • I have been viewing the films more or less in the order Arrow presents them. Last night I hit Five Superfighters (Volume 2, film 5). The laziest plot ever conceived. No big stars in the cast. My desperate hope that the finale would resolve some of the mysteries was cruelly dashed. I still have no idea who the five (super)fighters in the title are. It's another film where a bunch of guys beating up one guy is considered a great triumph.

The extra that accompanied with this one, "Shaw in the USA," is very good.

            • For those near Syracuse - it isn't all Shaw, but it's enough Shaw to count.

              • Because they are the worst label in the business, Shout Factory has posted a site exclusive limited edition (2500 copies) BRAVE ARCHER Box set that contains THE BRAVE ARCHER 1-3, THE BRAVE ARCHER AND HIS MATE, & LITTLE DRAGON MAIDEN. (As I always ask, why bother licensing this shit if you aren't going to release it properly.)

                • Thanks for the heads up on the Brave Archer box. It's never been clear to me why companies chose any particular marketing strategy. In this case, it's nice that each movie gets its own disc and they have produced three new featurettes (although I have little use for the commentaries). On the other hand, $70 is not cheap.

                  • Unless it is a big title getting re-released on UHD or licensed from a major US studio, Shout Factory is pretty much all in on site exclusive limited edition model. It has been something that they mostly foisted upon catalogs they own (i.e. the Roger Corman catalog, Westchester Films catalog), but they recently have expanded it to include licensed titles. (Which, if I were Celestial, StudioCanal, etc. I would not be happy with, as they get a percent of disc sales, and Shout's actions artificially cap what they possibly could be earning.)

                        • A Blu-ray.com user posted the following about the subtitles on The Brave Archer set
Just a random thing of note. Subtitles are a mixed bag. I think they’re mostly dubtitles but they seem like they are maybe auto generated by software. Either that or the person creating them isn’t paying very good attention because some of the words are mixed with words that sound like the word they’re supposed to be. In addition there seem to be a lot of inconsistencies. Characters names are spelled differently between (at least the first 3 movies) and I suspect it’s partly because the dubs pronounce them differently. In any case it’s a bit sloppy. Not a deal breaker but not very polished just the same
More shit subtitles from Shout Factory.
