One of the wildest, bloodiest, and most visually stunning Yakuza exploitation movies ever made

[For immediate release] Eureka Entertainment to release Hideo Gosha’s masterpiece, VIOLENT STREETS, one of the wildest, bloodiest, and most visually stunning Yakuza exploitation movies ever made. Presented as part of The Masters of Cinema Series in its worldwide debut on Blu-ray presented from a 2K restoration. Available from 20 February 2023, the first print-run of 2000 copies will feature a Limited-Edition O-card Slipcase.

One of the finest directors of Japanese chambara (sword fighting) films, Hideo Gosha (Sword of the Beast, Three Outlaw Samurai) also directed a number of films in the yakuza genre. The most outstanding of these was Violent Streets; a baroque crime thriller about a retired yakuza who gets pulled into a violent gang war by his former associates.

A former yakuza member, Egawa (Noboru Andô) is now a brooding world-weary nightclub owner. Some of his former associates are released from prison and want to regain a foothold in the criminal underworld by igniting a gang war between the local yakuza, and an out-of-town clan led by veteran actor Tetsurō Tanba (Harakiri).

A bold and colourful entry in the yakuza genre, Hideo Gosha’s Violent Streets makes its worldwide debut on Blu-ray from a new restoration completed by Toei Company, Ltd.

"Violent Streets is one of the wildest, bloodiest and most visually stunning Yakuza yarns ever made. Violent Streets is a masterpiece, plain and simple. One of Gosha's best (just maybe his very best) and one of the crowning achievements in Japan's Yakuza cycle of the 70s. A must see." - Films from the Far Reaches

"Violent Streets is a lean and mean yakuza exploitation picture that plays with a lot of genre tropes – e.g., rival groups, old ways versus young guns, etc. – all capped off by a deeply fatalistic streak." - Matt Spry, Death Ray Dive

Finally! Hopefully this (and other Yakuza films) will get a US or All-Regions release.

Bunta Sugawara and Noboru Ando are seriously under-represented on dvd/blu-ray.

The UK disc from Eureka is going to be censored
This work had compulsory cuts made to remove scenes of animal cruelty involving chickens. Cuts were made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines, policy and the application of the Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act 1937 under the Video Recordings Act 1984.

Not seen this one, but the BBFC definitely have inconsistent standards in the way they apply the law. Tearing heads of chickens is fine in Dreadnaught, cockfighting is fine in Destiny because it's a silent movie that won't appeal to the masses etc.

Yeah, I always think of how they let Inferno and Deep Red pass uncut even though the explanations of the animal violence were clearly lies (they just happened to catch the cat eating the rat in Inferno and the lizard wasn't impaled on the needle in Deep Red.

Not to mention the chicken in Pink Flamingos, they can't say that didn't go through prolonged distress, yet it got passed uncut.

                      Cuts report on Violent Streets
                      https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=204054

Turns out its four cuts totalling to 11 seconds.

Note that only two of the four cuts come during the dolly shot. The other two come already a few minutes earlier. I didn't realize before the film could be cut in more than one place.
