What the fuck are Synapse doing with this line? When are the rest of the hard hitters coming out? I'm starting to believe we'll never see Rape Site, and if we don't chances are we'll never see a legitimate English friendly release ever.

So frustrating. Most of their big announcements have never been released. Perhaps they have no access to elements? RAPE SITE is already out in Japan on DVD, so that's available (I have it).

But so many Nikkatsu titles have been totally ignored: WOMAN OF THE AFTERNOON-INCITE would be a perfect release, but no mention of that. There is a great transfer/version going around.

Why not release RAPE 13TH HOUR, RAPING!, ATTACK and ASSAULT (Yukihiro Sawada films)? Who knows!?

They still continue to release them and now there is only 6 left from their deal so "soon" the only one they will have left is Rape Site. I'm sure it will come then (this year? perhaps next). ;) I would have thought it would have come much sooner though.

I'm not done, but really frustrated with their choices.

Perhaps they made announcements for titles that weren't ever going to be improved. And perhaps they thought they'd get access to film elements but never did, or perhaps sales didn't justify dong a telecine of film elements. Who knows?

I get that the market for these is sadly quite small, so perhaps releasing a box set of, for example, Hasebe titles, would be a better move for another company as they could charge a premium that people like myself would pay.

Imagine a box with ASSAULT JACK THE RIPPER, RAPING!, RAPE, RAPE 13TH HOUR?

I'd pay $100 for that, if not mor, if transfers were fresh.

A friend in the business once told me Pink Pineapple wanted too much for the RAPEMAN series, so that's why that's not available outside Japan legitimately. Great series, BTW.

But so many Nikkatsu titles ARE getting great (if not slightly tinted) transfers now for Japanese VOD platforms and Synapse aren't capitalising on them. Is the series a financial bust for them? Is that why they're "settling" for existing tape masters? Keeping costs at a minimum to license fees only and some authoring?

Germany put out a great new STAR OF DAVID, so perhaps a saviour will come from Europe? I wouldn't expect it from UK because many of the Nikklatsu titles are too "problematic" for the UK censors. Ultimately, these films for Western eyes need a big pocketed company that is in it as much for the "prestige,", "notoriety," and publicity as profits. Profits aren't quick in this arena.

Jerry Chandler mentioned in a podcast a long time ago that he had checked around 250 roman pornos that Nikkatsu sent and he chose from those (for the first deal as well or just the following ones, I don't know). Maybe Synapse thought all of those would have been available in good enough quality. But even the VOD sites in Japan have to use the old vhs era masters for the same titles.

I think Synapse did get Nikkatsu do a new scan of the Fairy In a Cage for them (all the other titles from the first deal were already available in good quality releases in Japan as far as I can remember) but perhaps now the amount of low quality masters was just too much. Especially since Synapse had to pay for the Zoom Up Rape Site scan.

The last six that are left should all look good.

I remember Don or Jerry mentioning that these films actually sold really well at some point (many years ago). But I do have to wonder about the situation now... if the long breaks between releases and the poor quality of many of them have killed those good sales.

It's significant in Nikkatsu's history because this film got a lot of folks involved (including the director and executives of Nikkatsu) arrested on obscenity charges. #gottakeepworking #socialdistancing

Very good news that Synapse are doing another Blu/DVD. I'm not sure what LOVE HUNTER is as the title has been used before. Not sure I've seen it.

Reading back a few posts... who else is releasing roman pornos today (for the english speaking market)?

The current trend in general is to release things that are already availible, as in play it safe. Few have balls like Impulse and Mondo Macabro to push out, mostly, little known/unseen films
