Toru, a down and out tabloid reporter is looking for his next "big" story. In order to get paid decent money in the supermarket rag business, you need to find controversy! The elusive "Momoe" is forbidden fruit, so he sets his sights on Miki Yoko, an up and coming young singing sensation. She's young and beautiful and Toru thinks her record company is pumping her full of drugs. He will do anything to get a story, even assaulting her and tailing her everywhere she goes. One night, she is kidnapped right in front of him and, with his reporter instincts at work, Toru's life spirals into a torrid world of sex, drugs, and corruption in the entertainment business. In his quest for a huge story, will he come out unscathed?

MOMOE'S LIPS is a violent, perverse film that is just as relevant today as it was 35 years ago upon release. In our 21st century world of paparazzi tailing entertainers for pictures and stories for the nightly news, this film tackled similar themes many decades ago' with much more skin, sex and violence on display for the audience!

Here's one from Synapse / Impulse to the fans. A film that has never been transferred from the original film prints before! No videos, no dvds, no VoDs, no nothing anywhere in the world. A film that most of us probably know by reputation: Zoom Up: Rape Site (1979).

This film, directed by one of Nikkatsu's best and most stylish filmmakers, Koyu Ohara, was Nikkatsu's return to ultra-violent pink. The genre bloomed in the mid 70's, but after the controversy created by Rape! 13th Hour Nikkatsu ordered their directors to tone it down. Zoom Up: Rape Site changed that, and is considered by those few who have seen it as one of the nastiest films in the genre.

I've been dying to tell people about this for a long time already, and I guess it's ok now since Jerry mentioned it in a podcast (51:50). I was slightly involved in getting the film to Synapse's release list, but all credit goes to Synapse who went an extra mile with it. This was a title even Nikkatsu wasn't sure if they had it. But it was in their vaults, and Synapse decided to go for and do all the work from the scratch because they knew fans would love to finally get their hand on it.

I hope everyone will support Synapse's releases, but I especially hope people will support this specific title. It's one for the fans! No release date yet, but it's certainly coming!

Holy crap, this is awesome news! Can't wait to buy this one.

          • I have FAIRY IN A CAGE on the way & own ZOOM IN: SEX APARTMENTS. Definitely need to pick up the prison-themed films along with Sex Hunter & Female Teacher Hunting.

ZOOM UP: RAPE SITE sounds like a good one!

            • I watched something that's also in Synapse's catalogue for a change:

Eros School: Feels So Good (Japan, 1977) [DVD] - 3.5/5
An unexpectedly funny and cute high school rape comedy. A "transfer student" who wears straw hat and carries pet pig with him (!) arrives new school and announces no girl will be safe from him. He then proceeds to rape a considerable number of girls, which makes him a hero in the eyes of the other boys who aren't getting any but are composing songs about how they wish they were. It's utterly ridiculous, frequently funny, fast paced, and packed with cute girls. The whole film seems to be taking place in some kind of fantasy universe where real life logic doesn't apply. This kind of energy and solid execution is missing from most of Nikkatsu's Roman Porno films.

              • Ian, Momoe's Lips review has a terrible mistake in it! In the first sentence you claim it was directed by Kichitaro Negishi instead of Katsuhiko Fujii. You've mixed Nikkatsu's best and worst director

I watched this one a couple of years back. It's a bizarre film, yet utterly, utterly fascinating. I loved it :)

                    • I'm behind on Impulse's Nikkatsu discs, having not bought one for a year or so (I think the last one I bought was NYMPHO DIVER: G-STRING FESTIVAL or WET TARGET). I'm catching up now with SEX HUNTER: 1980 and will order another this month... and I'm taking suggestions Would anyone care to recommend one of the titles that has been released in the past 18 months or so?

While I have purchased all of the Impulse Nikkatsu discs I haven't watched them all yet. I'm pacing myself since the release schedule has slowed down. If you enjoyed G-STRING FESTIVAL your bound to like TIGHT SHELLFISH as they are similar. If my memory is correct, it has a "save the rec center plot" that I always find entertaining. I enjoyed both very much. MOMOE'S LIPS is good but I wouldn't go out my way to recommend it. If you do pick it up I would recommend reading the release notes as some background does enhance the enjoyment of this one.

Only in Japan could this sentence be used I think!!!!
