Jimmy, I also laughed when I read that message. Licensing Japanese films is expensive. In fact, I'm pretty sure Don mentioned on AV Maniacs that the Nikkatsu license cost them a lot and if they didn't sell well, would really hurt Synapse (if not put them out of business).

I have to admit I'm not a big Roman Porno fan (the only Synapse one I have is the FAIRY IN A CAGE Blu-ray), but I'm happy that these have done well and hope that Synapse will go after some more Nikkatsu stuff or maybe some more Toei Pinky Violence films.

I can only pray that with the new found success of the Nikkatsu roman porno line that Synapse can become the new Tartan & forgo their crap horror stuff and instead become an exclusive distributor of Japanese/Asian films.

I'm fine with the fact they release a little bit of everything as this is better for any labels to be diversified. I just don't like the horror fanboys attitude of horror or nothing and, as Don wrote, horror isn't necessarily the best selling genre probably because the market is over saturated with horror films (and to be honest a lot of horror films are awfull).

Glorious news! I was starting to get a little bummed that the Nikkatsu line was coming to an end. Now there is hope that it might continue. Maybe they'll take a shot at more of Toei's Pinky Violence as well.

Any idea how many titles were included in the actual licencing agreement they have?

Thanks! So that means that 8 more films left in the first batch (wich will probably be enough for 2014 considering the usual releasing schedule for the collection). Hope everything will go well in the second batch negociation and we won't see a long releasing pause.

After a few years of burn out it may be time for my to dip my toes in the sleazy cesspool that is roman porno again...Hope there are some good ones i have not seen before.....

Glad these titles are doing well for Synapse (and, to be honest, how can they NOT sell well...The combination of the covers and outrageous titles must make them almost JUMP off the shelves!!!

The nifty thing about the covers is, well... not so nifty but necessary... is that they're edited versions of the original one sheets. Obvioulsy the naughty bits are covered. BUT, on all the liner note inserts, you get the original cover art.

The Japanese sure do get away with displaying a lot more nudity in their movie posters than the rest of us seem to!

Not a Synapse release but I gave 'Naked Rashomon' another shot yesterday. I'm still not convinced. I even used the fast-forward button a lot. Not enough violence! Definitely not the avalanche of bloodshed the boxcover promised.

The RSP forum needs a sales thread so I can get rid of this Nikkatsu stuff :)

Zoom In: Sex Apartments had a giallo feel to it and is probably my favorite release so far. I'm really looking forward to SEX HUNTER.
