Has there ever been a decent non-Pang Brothers Thai horror movie? I have yet to find one. The cover shot makes me wonder if this is about the English guy Elon Musk defamed.
Shutter! Yes, Shutter is very good. I did not enjoy Nang Nak as much as you did, but I'll give it another shot. I'll start tracking down the others. I also liked Garuda when I realigned my expectations.
I watched “303 Fear Faith Revenge†yesterday afternoon and found it very entertaining for the most part. The epilogue was jarring. Out of the blue, we are told, just before dying, the janitor - the poorest person in the movie - falsely takes credit for all of the mayhem, thereby allowing the church and aristocracy to escape any blame. All parties, including our hero, are willing to be complicit in this lie. That's represented as a happy ending.
The Art of the Devil movies sound good. I'll track them down.
I liked the three ART OF THE DEVIL movies (2004-2008), especially the second film. Wish they'd find their way to non-upscaled BD.
(Just doing some housecleaning before year is up, making sure I posted in threads I had neglected to update...)
Back in August before it expired, I watched the first one on Tubi and really liked it. For some reason it reminded me of a few Shaw Brothers flicks from the 70's (maybe it was made in homage to those). I appreciated how gritty it was, a quality that was enhanced possibly by accident, since the picture quality was sub-par (I wonder if it was shot that way due to budget constraints).
I then went and bought the trilogy put out by Tokyo Shock. I can see why you would like the second one, as it's the most inventive with its revenge sequences. The third one was probably the least effective, as it attempted to duplicate its predecessor, and even unsuccessfully (in my estimation) tried to work in a couple of the characters from that one.
The image quality got better with each movie, which again makes me wonder if that was based on resources the filmmakers had and not the DVD transfer process itself.
The thing that stuck with me the most about these is that they were unlike any other Thai horror I've seen, which tend to add humor when extreme gore is present (e.g., BODY JUMPER). These were definitely purposely grim and unrelenting.

I enjoyed Meat Grinder (2009). A superb Thai splatter movie that is more than just a gore film.

Obviously I now realize that that statement was wrong, but it has served to bring to light many excellent recommendations, from which I have profited. I like all three of the "Art of the Devil "movies. I picked up a new copy of "Zee-Oui" very inexpensively yesterday and I'm shopping for "Meat Grinder." Has anyone had a chance to see "Ghost Coins"?
