Why on earth would you trade away such and amazing film on such a terrific DVD?
It was during the time when I lived in a small apartment and my lady was giving me grief about all the stacks of dvds that I had lying around everywhere. So I was making 1:1 rips and trading or selling away the physical copies to make space. I traded away this one and BOHACHI BUSHIDO around the same time.

Back to the newly commissioned artwork, it's hard for me to fathom that Arrow are actually paying for these?! Just use the original poster art and save some money for all other stuff instead of these eyesore covers.

Alright, ty for the info. I hardly buy any arrow, as they tend to release things i already have when it comes to japanese cinema.

But their recent year shows promise, and I guess they have to release things like this that is hard to get for newcomers (and well known) to make it work.

I don't mind the new art. In a super-difficult market where piracy is rampant, indifference is high, selling a film to just true fans is not going to recoup investment in the authoring, extras, rights, film-to-digital transfer, so Arrow has created original artwork to attract buyers beyond the die-yards like all of us. It's not a problem because they're still including the original art.

If these items don't sell well, there will be less of them, so I'm all for whatever Arrow needs to do to re-frame, re-position, and introduce the film to audiences other than us.

Looks like Arrow is releasing more Teruo Ishii, as they have had Orgies of Edo / Zankoku ijí´ gyakutai monogatari: Genroku onna keizu rated by the BBFC.

That's certainly some welcome news. Less Suzuki and more Ishii is a step in the right direction.

Nice find, Derrick. I'd pick up ORGIES immediately also.

I can't take credit for the discovery, someone on the Blu-ray.com forum found it. I was just sharing the news.

Very interesting and the fact that it says "Cut: All known versions of this work passed uncut" in addition to "BBFC Insight: strong bloody violence, sexual and sexualised violence" is encouraging. Until now I assumed that pretty much all pinky violence films (not to even think of Nikkatsu roman porno) would get into serious trouble with the BBFC over all the sexualised violence and raped-until-she-likes-it stuff.

Good news indeed even if it's one of the lesser Abnormal Love films. Still fun flick, though.

I still can't imagine BBFC passing the best Ishii films, though. The Joy of Torture, Inferno of Torture and Bohachi Bushido. Then again, I don't think Toei has those in HD anyway. If we do get more Ishii, it's probably gonna be Yakuza's Law or/and Love & Crime which Toei has in HD.

I haven't seen much Ishii, but Yakuza's Law is a gem! I'd love to see that on Blu Ray.
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

Yeah. It is a good thing Arrow US exists, so if those do get HD masters, Arrow can still release them uncut in the US.

                              Release date: 19/20 November

Legendary Toei director Teruo Ishii tells three stories of moral sickness set during Japan's prosperous Genroku era in this bloody follow-up to his sexploitation classic Shogun's Joy of Torture, and the fourth entry in Toei's 'abnormal love' film series. Ishii's politically incorrect moral lessons paint a trio of tales of tragic heroines caught up in violence, sadomasochism, incest and torture.

Told in anthology style by an impassive physician (Teruo Yoshida), the first story follows Oito (Masumi Tachibana), an innocent young girl deceived by a handsome yakuza and sold into prostitution who finds herself in a doomed love affair with the man who brought her to ruin. The tale of Ochise (Mitsuko Aoi) is about the daughter of a rich merchant whose insatiable appetite for filth and perversion draws her deeper into violence, darkness and betrayal. Finally, the story of Omitsu (Miki Obana) follows a sadistic lord (Asao Koike) whose eye is caught one day by a beautiful member of his harem who shares his strange taste for pain and blood, but who holds a secret of her own that will destroy his entire household.

A stylistic about-face from the director's prior work for Toei on the successful Abashiri Prison action series starring Ken Takakura, Ishii's erotic films grew increasingly shocking, violent and strange, and Orgies of Edo finds him combining period film detail with carnivalesque grotesquerie to create his own particular vision of love and sex. This landmark 'ero-guro' film allowed Ishii to experiment with elements that would later show up in his masterpieces Horrors of Malformed Men and Blind Woman's Curse, including the participation of sideshow performers and butoh dancer Tatsumi Hijikata.
