The Beast is back! Just in time for the Halloween season, see Tiki Terrors and Mad Doctors! Monsters and more at a real drive in-theater! On Sunday, October 14, the Circle Drive-In in Scranton/Dickson City, PA presents the world premiere of THE BLOOD COLLECTION, a movie marathon of the recently remastered creature feature and horror films: BRIDES OF BLOOD (1968), MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND (1969) and BEAST OF BLOOD (1970). Get ready to celebrate all things Tiki, Terror and Big Screen FUN with films that will take you back to the 1960s, the height of the drive movie and South Seas Tiki craze. For ticket information, please go to: http://www.circlefamilyfun.com/

The films were produced in English in the Philippines specifically for the U.S. drive-in market. The crazy creature feature campaigns were created by Sam Sherman - Hemisphere Pictures' Mad Doctor of Marketing, and The King of Drive-In-Sanity. Now 80-years-old and still working and remains an icon in the Drive-In film industry.

Sam Sherman, who went onto launch Independent-International Pictures, produced and distributed movies that established the drive-in/ grindhouse formula of “titillating” exploitation titles, super low budgets, veteran actors in the twilight of their careers and the lost art of good old-fashioned ballyhoo. Sam Sherman was one of the pioneer marketers to utilize classic gimmicks to lure in movie-goers including the first interactive, audience participation monster movie, THE MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND, featuring THE OATH OF GREEN BLOOD. Sam Sherman's sideshow approach to marketing made these films cult classics.

In addition to this Scranton screening, the films kick off a year-long, nation-wide tour and merchandising blitz to bring these films to drive-in movie and Tiki bar markets across the country, courtesy of event organizer and Producer, David Sehring of Drive-In-Sanity Films, LLC.. THE BLOOD ISLAND COLLECTION will be coming soon to Blu-ray for the first time from Severin Films beginning October 30. https://severin-films.com/shop/dr-lorcas-head-bundle/.

This looks awfully tempting to pre-order. I balked at the original SRP but now that it's available for even less than Severin's pre-order price, it's something of a bargain for everything you get in that box.

For those who have the box set on their "I'll Get This At Some Point Down The Road"-list, you might want to consider making it a bit more of a priority. According to Severin, their supply of the box set is limited, which means online retailers won't be getting re-stock on it once they burn through their initial orders.

It stands to reason that the individual titles will be around for a while, but the box set is the only place to get the concluding film in the series (BEAST OF BLOOD), as well as the soundtrack CD to MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND. The box can probably be had for a decent price during the various Black Friday sales, so you might want to jump on it then.

I ordered mine direct from Severin, because I wanted the extra goodies which were part of the Bundle Package, and it's a nice release. I've only watched TERROR IS A MAN thus far, and it was a substantial improvement over the old DVD.

Will you be reviewing this for the site, Ian?

Thanks for the heads up. I went ahead and ordered the box set w/bonus CD as I don't really care about the other extras in the bundle package.

argh. Hope this stays available for a couple of months. Criterion's Bergman box has pretty much wiped out my budget.

Yep, started in on it yesterday but will need a few more days to get it done. It is a really nice set so far.

Just eat very cheap meals or skip them for 3 weeks & that'll pay for it.

Those are definitely two sets that need to be displayed side by side!

eh, you guys are a bad influence. I put it in my cart at deepdiscount and I'm going to wait a day or two and see if they email me a one time coupon code. (if they still do that.)

That "trick" still worked for me last week when I placed an order. Or you can order it from IMPORTCDS and use the code TAKE10 and it'll come to around $47 with shipping & taxes.

Damn it, should've checked here a few minutes ago, as I just ordered it from Grindhouse Video for $55 and they don't allow cancellations.

I am a fool and my money has parted.:cuckoo:

You got a great box set for a cost of less than $14 per film, so I'd say that was a perfectly sound decision!

yeah, well, when you put it that way not buying it would be irresponsible (and I get to toss a little coin to the guy at Grindhouse Video, who had an epic facebook rant on Shout/Scream's new M.A.P. policy that screws customers.)
