  • Don't Play With Fire (1980) - Tsui Hark

Does anyone know if this extraordinary film has ever been released on DVD in its' OAR? Or even at all? I've only seen the Shocking Videos DVD-r and it was pan and scan (though apparently uncut).
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Metropolitan in France released it on dvd in scope but not English friendly. It also included Tsui Hark's original cut reconstructed from vhs. Nice set, but I doubt it will ever get the HD treatment due to the shocking lack of HK film preservation.

      Interesting.

This is OT, but still Hark-related, and with your username I bet you're the man to ask; have you seen Media Blaster's DVD of WE'RE GOING TO EAT YOU? I was curious about the transfer and if their are any strange anomalies. I recently watched the DVD released by Mei Ah Entertainment and the transfer is really dated (though not bad for the time).

Sorry, I haven't seen the Media Blasters version, I just stuck with the French version as I understand enough French to get by and was always wary of Media Blasters.

I don't blame you regarding MB. I'm always a bit nervous when I throw one of their discs on. You never know if it's going to be OK.

Does the French edition of DON'T PLAY have the original Catonese audio with the American actors in English?

Yes, it has the original soundtrack with the English dialogue where applicable and (possibly unlicensed) music. The vhs inserts on the directors cut also have Chinese and and English subtitles burnt into the print, but I can't remember how much of the film that is.

That disc sounds like it's worth it. Thanks for all the info 999!

No problem. Pretty expensive as OOP but if you love these films as much as I do, it's absolutely worth it as this may be the last chance to get physical copies of these.

I've owned the HK Video box set for years, but have never found time to watch any of the films. Maybe this year finally...
