  • Sammo Hung - The Bodyguard

"A retired bodyguard (Sammo Hung) settles down in a small town on the Russia-China border. He befriends a young girl whose life is threatened when her father (Andy Lau) falls in with the local crime world. When the girl and her father disappear, the bodyguard sets out on a ruthless trail to take down the mob and rescue the girl."

Looks like this gets a theatrical release in China on 4/1/16.

More Sammo is a good thing.

I love how he is so fat, yet so agile. Impressive.

He always was gravity defying despite his rather large build..nice to see him still making movies...

So it's not the action film that the marketing campaign has made it out to be but it still sounds like it's worth a watch, especially for Sammo fans.

I had tempered my expectations after reading some of the early rather tepid reviews (to put it kindly). But this was even worse than my already lowered expectations -- don't waste your time with this tired cliched yawnfest. Best part of the film was this scene here.

Also, false advertisement with all the trailers showing the star studded cameos like Tsui Hark, Yuen Wah, Yuen Biao, Karl Maka and Dean Shek as you might miss them if you blink or just fall asleep by the time they finally show up. I heard it did well at the Chinese box office but not surprised as it seemed Sammo might have been hamstrung into placating the mainland audience with the script (particularly the Russian mob as the baddies) because it certainly is a far cry from the HK action cinema fans of known and loved from him in the past.

City On Fire has an interview with the man himself covering this film.
