Debbie Does Dallas II - Movie Review:

This 1981 sequel by director Jim Buckley to his 1978 XXX hit catches up with Debbie (played, of course, by Bambi Woods). Ready to give up on her dreams of becoming a cheerleader, we see her getting a lift from a trucker (Robert Kerman) before then getting left on the side of the road and then promptly locked up by a cop named Little John (Ron Hudd) who has sex with her in her cell.

From here, free again, Debbie decides going to try and make it as a singer, but without a whole lot of talent in that arena, figures maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to reconnect with her estranged Aunt Xavier (Jinger Jaye). Debbie arrives at Xavier's place, referred to as 'The Ranch,' and is welcomed with open arms but Debbie, not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, doesn't realize at first that Xavier is a madam and that she is, in fact, running a house of ill repute!

Mary Lou (Lisa Cintrice) and Betsey Lou (Jeanne Silver), two of Xavier's finest, take Debbie upstairs and give her a bath, which goes exactly like you'd expect it to, while other women in her aunt's employ have sex with anyone interested, including quite a few of the local cops that seem to frequent the establishment, and even the local coach (Ron Jeremy), who -initially at least - doesn't want his players to celebrate with prostitutes after their last game, despite the fact that it is an annual tradition. When Debbie learns what's really going on at The Ranch, she wants in on the action but before Xavier will put her to work, she has to demonstrate that she's got what it takes.

A fairly plotless but enjoyably breezy hardcore sex picture, Debbie Does Dallas II doesn't really take anything seriously at all. It's effectively comedic in spots, some wonky humor helping to set the tone for the goofy mix of explicit XXX action and corny jokes and gags that make up the bulk of the film's running time. Production values are pretty decent here, with Buckley using various sets and locations pretty effectively. The house that serves as The Ranch is fancy and ornate and the women that populate the place are generally pretty attractive and nicely dressed in various slinky outfits. The cinematography is quite good, with the sex scenes being shot with a good mix of facial reactions, full body shots and the requisite close ups that are part and parcel with hardcore material.

Again, don't go into this expecting much at all in the way of story or character development, but Woods plays her airhead character charmingly enough to work as the lead, while the supporting players all do pretty decent work here as well. The scene with Woods, Cintrice and Silver is a stand out and the fantasy sequences that play out in the last third of the movie are quite creative and interestingly staged.

Debbie Does Dallas II - Blu-ray Review:

Vinegar Syndrome presents Debbie Does Dallas II Part II “newly scanned & restored in 2k from its 35mm original camera negative” in AVC encoded 1080p high definition with the transfer using up 23.4GBs of space on the 25GB disc. Picture quality is really solid, with great color reproduction and really nice detail evident throughout. The image shows natural film grain but no damage outside of some small white specks here and there. Skin tones look good and black levels are strong. There are no problems with any noise reduction or edge enhancement issues.

The 24-bit DTS-HD 2.0 Mono track in the film's native English sounds good. The track is clean and properly balanced, no problems to note here and the score sounds quite strong. Optional subtitles are provided in English only.

There are two quick behind the scenes bits here, the first running two minutes and the second just over a minute. Each one is a montage set to music that shows off some of the effects work and what it was like on set.

The first of the extras on the disc is a new audio interview with actress Lisa Cintrice, moderated by Casey Scott, that lasts for pretty much the entire duration of the film. This piece goes over her character and performance in Debbie Does Dallas II, how she got into adult films after doing a shoot for Oui magazine through Peter Wolf and Dominique. She also goes over her joining the army after being married at sixteen and not knowing what to do with her life, some of the co-stars that she worked with, her relationship with Ken Yontz, the pros and cons of deep-throating Ron Jeremy and what he was really like off camera, having to be careful on certain shoots depending on where they were taking place, dancing in Times Square, reconnecting with some of her co-stars through social media, the differences between the NYC and California adult movie scenes, the casting process, working with Larry Levinson and plenty more.

The disc also includes a new audio interview with actor Sean Elliot, also moderated by Casey Scott, which also runs the entity of the film. They start by talking about 'who Sean Elliot was,' his disappearance and reappearance in the adult film industry, how he got his start in the industry, getting to know Zebedy Colt and Leonard Kirtman, trying to fly under the radar and finding that difficult while working in the adult business, working with Cecil Howard, memories of some of the co-stars that he worked with, where certain scenes for certain films were shot, the mystery of Bambi Woods, how he feels blessed to have been around some of the people he met in the industry, the importance of being comfortable with yourself if performing in adult movies, the specifics of his work in Debbie Does Dallas II (he was only on the set for two days but he remembers everything!) and lots more.

The first pressing of this release comes with a limited edition embossed slipcover designed by Earl Kessler Jr. and limited to three thousand units as well as some double-sided cover sleeve art.

Debbie Does Dallas II - The Final Word:

Debbie Does Dallas II is a fun, breezy adult picture that takes full advantage of a solid cast. The Blu-ray release from Vinegar Syndrome's Peekarama line looks and sounds great and the two extensive interviews are very much worth listening to for anyone with an interest in the history of the adult film industry.
