    Superhero-Sex-O-Rama - Movie Review:

Alpha Blue Archives have dug deep into the vaults with their Dirty Drive-In series or double and triple features. This volume, Superhero Sex-O-Rama, pairs up two comic book inspired seventies obscurities, making their DVD debut with this disc.

    Souperman (1976, 68:36):

Also known as Powerbone, Fred J. Lincoln's feature debut was originally distributed by VCA. Shot in and around what looks like Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan, this Superman parody stars none other than Mr. Marc Stevens in the lead. Presented by Crypton Productions (according to the opening still), the theme from 2001 starts us off as it plays over some stills of Stevens flexing in his underoos and his red Chuck Taylor hightops. We learn that Souperman has an alias - Clark Bent, a reporter for a sex magazine. We meet him in his office where he's getting a blowjob from co-worker Lois Lewd (Susan McBain) while some oom-pa-pa music skitters away in the background. The Chief (Jack Teaglie) calls Clark and Lois into the office. From there we see Souperman make a TV appearance where he's interviewed by Dick Larson (Fred Lincoln himself) where the host and his guest talk about socks and crime fighting, or the lack thereof. Souperman tells everyone he stopped fighting crime so that he could focus more on having sex with Earth women because 'the sounds are really moving.' Wallace looks high here, and this conversation makes no sense though we do learn that someone named Luther (Roger Caine) wants everyone to stop having sex.

From there, Souperman heads out into the city to fight Luther and his secret anti-sex formula using his nuts. These are literal nuts, not testicles, and they serve as an aphrodisiac - the Chief even gives some to Clark and Lois before sending Clark on assignment and boning Lois in his office. Meanwhile, Luther sits around and listens to organ music while scratching his gin and overacting as he tells us how he has to adjust his formula to clean the world of filth and smut. When Clark sees Luther's work in action, he decides to ramp up his efforts and stop him before the entire world stops having sex and all of his peanuts go bad, so he and his assistant Jimmy (Eric Edwards) have an orgy with some gals. Jimmy later eats out a horny gal in edible undies. Remember those? Those were weird. At any rate, after everyone has sex, Clark turns into Souperman to the sounds of the William Tell Overture, and runs around the city for a few minutes then hops into a ladies apartment and bones her after she tells him that Luther gave her the formula. He gives her some peanuts and they get it on. With Souperman now having created an army of horny women, they soon attack Luther's pad where they show him the error of his ways and he hears bells ring. Souperman finds out what they're up to and joins in and we get a Clockwork Orange style sped up sex scene with more William Tell Overture in the background.

This movie is about as hot as an ice cube but the sight of a very effeminate Stevens running around the streets of New York in blue underoos and a red cape all set to classical music completely redeems it. While not good in a traditional way, or particularly erotic, the movie is plenty funny and it's amazing that DC Comics never sued 'Crypton Productions' or writer/director Fred Lincoln!

    Super Lady (1975, 55:13):

The second feature starts off with a stoned guy and his friend muttering while driving through New York and sharing a spliff as some deranged piano music plays in the background. They hit a lady coming back from the grocery store and send a can of RC Cola rolling across the street. Cue the opening credits... hey neat, someone named Buzz 'Skin' Womack is in this. Apparently this film was produced by Multiflex (??) and is a Mr. Mustard production. Therefore it should stand to reason that it was directed by none other than Mr. Greg Poupon. Get it?

OK, back to the story. This chick got wrecked by the car. The list of her injuries is endless (R. Bolla tells us this so it must be true) and she's apparently got no family or friends. As such, the government wants to use her as a guinea pig for a new procedure to produce a 'super specimen of a female.' At any rate, the doctors do what they can but there were complications and now this rebuilt woman (Jeanette St. Michel) with super strength is an unstoppable nymphomaniac! We know this because as soon as she's off the operating table, she's giving head to Bolla, who is instructed to lie still and not make any sudden moves. At any rate, once Bolla and the doctor guy finish Super Lady off, we learn that her skills are needed! She has to locate and assassinate a man called Zabor whose sphere of influence covers the entire world. His stooge, Dominic, is staying in an NYC hotel (where he's applying some nipple clamps to some brunette) so she's sent off to take care of him and get the Feds to Zabor before his sphere of influence allows him to do... something. We never really learn what. At any rate, a spinning globe and some stock footage lets us know we've moved on and are on Zabor's trail, he's somewhere in the Middle East banging white girls with veils on trying to look Arab. Super Lady takes advantage of this disguise tactic and moves in but there's a catch! Turns out Zabor knows all about the modifications that have been made to her! Will Super Lady make it back to the U.S.A. alive or will she remain Zabor's slave?

The soundtrack for this movie is amazing. It's all 'oodle doodle wee wee poot poot doo da doo' computer noises and moog sounds. For some reason the movie also cuts to illustrated comic book style pictures of Super Lady at really random moments. It's horribly directed and the sex is pretty plain but the soundtrack is so completely bad ass and the plot (which is played straight) some completely retarded that you can't help but love it. Thank you, Mr. Poupon, for the gift you've given us, the gift called Super Lady.

    Superhero-Sex-O-Rama - DVD Review:

Alpha Blue Archives presents both of the features on Superhero Sex-O-Rama in 1.33.1 fullframe transfers that look to be their respective proper aspect ratios. Both of the films have been taken from what look like battered tape sources. Souperman is pretty soft and suffers from some color fading but is otherwise fairly watchable as long as you go into this with your expectations in check. Detail is obviously going to be pretty soft and there's some wiggle to the picture once in a while.

Super Lady doesn't look quite as good, it's pretty dark and the first few minutes are almost unwatchable. That said, once you get ten minutes in thankfully the source does improve and it goes from unwatchable to barely watchable. The image is dark throughout the duration and as such, a lot of detail gets lost and the picture stays pretty muddy. Skin tones also look orangish and reddish and there are a lot of tracking lines throughout.

The English language Dolby Digital Mono tracks on the DVD fares a little better than the video transfers do but not by much. There's some hiss in the background and the levels bounce around slightly and again, the second feature is in worse shape than the first one. Most of the time the dialogue is perfectly audible but there are couple of spots where the muddy dialogue will have you turning up the volume a bit.

Aside from a static menu screen, this disc is completely barebones.

    Superhero-Sex-O-Rama - The Final Word:

The lack of extra features and the less than stellar tape sourced transfers don't help matters much but the two features contained on Alpha Blue's Superhero Sex-O-Rama double feature are a lot of completely retarded fun. You're more likely to bust a gut than bust a nut, but seventies smut fans should have a blast with these two films.
