Drive-In Delirium: Dead By Dawn - Movie Review:

The latest entry in Umbrella Entertainment's ongoing Drive-In Delirium series of trailer collections, Dead By Dawn, mixes up a whole lot of horror with healthy doses of T&A and random sleaze.

The trailers that make up pretty much the entirety of Drive-In Delirium: Dead By Dawn are broken up into two sections and presented as follows (with some drive-in intermission ads and related bits thrown in here and there for good measure):

    PART ONE: THE FINAL CHAPTER:

Pre-show / It Came From Beneath The See / The Monster That Challenged The World / 20 Million Miles To Earth / The Black Scorpion / Zaat! / Night Of The Lepus / Willard & Ben (double feature) / Food Of The Gods / King Kong (1976) / The Swarm / Jaws 2 / Something Waits In The Dark / Spasms / Slugs / Maniac / The Old Dark House (63) / Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb / The Gorgon / The Deadly Bees / The Mind Of Mr. Soames / See No Evil / Assault / Asylum / The Virgin Witch / Horror Of Snape Island / Dracula A.D. 1972 / The Satanic Rites Of Dracula / The Legend Of Hell House / The Cars That Are Paris / And Then There Were None / The Devil Within Her / Expose / Prey / The Last Wave / The Shout / Killer's Moon / Terror / The Medusa Touch / Next Of Kin / Rawhead Rex / Gothic / Lair Of The White Worm / Black Sabbath / Death Laid An Egg / The Forbidden Photos Of A Lady Above Suspicion / Five Dolls For An August Moon / Four Flies On Grey Velvet / The Fifth Cord / Short Night Of Glass Dolls / The Bloodstained Butterfly / Seven Blood Stained Orchids / The Case Of The Bloody Iris / Death Smiles On A Murderer / What Have They Done To Your Daughters? / The Night Train Murders / The Pyjama Girl Case / Watch Me When I Kill / Suspiria / The Bloodstained Shadow / Absurd / Madhouse / Blind Date / Stagefright / Opera / Nightmare Beach / Beyond The Door / The Night Child / The Other Hell / Nights Of Terror / The Man From Deep River / Eaten Alive / Massacre In Dinosaur Valley / Cut And Run / Survive! / SS Experiment Love Camp

This first selection is, clearly, focused pretty much entirely on horror and giallo pictures. It's programmed well, starting with some fun black and white promo spots for a couple of older creature features before then taking on a selection of titles from the sixties, seventies and eighties. Pretty much every sub-genre of horror is covered here - monster movies, vampires, mummy's, occult horror, slashers, giallo pictures, gothic horror - there's a great flow to this selection and a lot for genre fans to appreciate.

    PART TWO: A NEW BEGINNING

Pre-show / The Maze / 13 Ghosts / Psycho / Homicidal / The Premature Burial / Straightjacket / Wait Until Dark / Games / Night Of THe Living Dead (1968) / Play Misty For Me / Images / Black Christmas / It's Alive! / It Lives Again / Drive-In Massacre / Hex Massacre & Lucifer's Curse (double feature) / Rituals / Scapel / The Changeling / New Year's Evil / Motel Hell / Night Warning / Hell Night / One Dark Night / Psycho II / Creepshow / Evil Dead / The Incubus / The Dorm That Dripped Blood / Bloodbeat / Of Unknown Origin / Silent Night, Deadly Night / Scream For Help / Special Effects / The Stuff / Silver Bullet / Crawlspace / Maximum Overdrive / Neon Maniacs / The Majorettes / From A Whisper To A Scream / The Believers / American Gothic / Scarecrows / Return Of The Living Dead Part II / Nightmare At Noon / Cutting Class / After Midnight / Intruder / Luther The Geek / Deadly Games / Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III / Blow-Up / Candy / Eugenie / Deep End / Ciao! Manhattan / Immoral Tales / Pets / The Working Girls / The Kidnap Lover / CB Hustlers / The Pom Pom Girls / Vampire Hookers / Malibu High / Centerspread / The Devil's Honey / 9 1/2 Weeks / Dr. Strangelove (Or, How I Stopped Worrying And Learned To Love The Bomb) / Casino Royale / Bananas / Love Thy Neighbor / Man About The House / Young Frankenstein / Silent Movie / Jabberwocky / The End / Caddyshack / Airplane / S.O.B. / Zapped! / Eating Raoul / Strange Brew / Valley Girl / Better Off Dead / Clue / Teen Wolf / My Chauffeur / Back To School / The Princess Bride / Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure / Post-show / Also Available

The second assortment is a bit more random. It spends the fist half of its running time covering yet more horror pictures, continuing with the effective flow of the first installment. Once we get past Leatherface, however, things get more than a little erratic. We do a little arthouse before then heading into sex film territory. After that, we spend a good bit of time with pictures from the Crown International film library before we truly enter kitchen sink territory before then closing things out with a nice selection of vintage comedy pictures, some of which are more mainstream than you might expect but no less enjoyable for it (especially if you've got a fondness for 80's nostalgia).

Drive-In Delirium: Dead By Dawn - Blu-ray Review:

Drive-In Delirium: The New Batch arrives on a 50GB Blu-ray disc, with the two HD presentations taking up a combined 42GBS of space, and not surprisingly, the aspect ratio changes depending on the aspect ratio of the respective trailer that's playing. For the most part this is a pretty solid presentation and it does look like maybe some cleanup work was done here. The trailers were clearly in very nice shape, they're all much nicer looking than you'd expect if you've watched other trailer compilations that have hit the market over the years. Color reproduction looks spot on and black levels are good as well. There some minor compression artifacts here and there but detail and clarity are pretty good here. No complains, this is a nice presentation.

Audio chores are handled by an English language Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono track, there are no subtitles or closed captioning options provided. The audio here is more or less problem free. The levels are well balanced and there aren't any serious problems with any hiss or distortion even if you will pick up on it, as well as some sibilance, now and again if you're looking for it. There are no alternate language options or subtitles provided here.

As far as the extras are concerned, Umbrella has also tossed in an hour and a half long segment entitled Bride Of VHS Delirium - another selection of trailers taken from old tape sources, presented as follows:

The Beyond / Cannibal Apocalypse / Creepers / The Dark / Epitaph / The Evictors / The House On Sorority Row / I Spit On Your Grave / LA Crack Down / Madman / The Mutilator / Night Of The Zombies / Rape Squad / Savage Man Savage Beast / The Slayer / Splatter University / Squirm / Trapped / Dario Argento's World Of Horror / Bloody New Year / Blood Theater / Sillent Night Deadly Night 2 / The Initiation / Spookies / The Return Of Count Yorga / Tenebrae / Demons 2/ Reborn / Sole Survivor / Android / The Lost Empire / Prisoners Of The Lost Universe / Battle For The Lost Planet / The Brother From Another Planet / Hamburger / Pinball Summer / Stitches / Hot Dog The Movie / Waitress / Stuck On You / The First Turn-On / Feelin' Up / The Princess And The Call Girl / Blackout / The Guardian / Family And Honor / The Professor / Golden Needles / Diva / Ms. 45 / Rape Squad / Pray For Death / Rage Of Honor / The Retaliator / Feel The Heat / Survival Game / Commando Squad / Double Revenge / Rage To Kill / Snake Eater (someone needs to release this trilogy on Blu-ray!)

This material takes up 5.7GBs of space and is presented in 720p with AVC encoding and English language Dolby Digital 2.0 audio.

Drive-In Delirium: Dead By Dawn - The Final Word:

With approximately eight hours of content here, there's a lot to take in on Umbrella Entertainment's Drive-In Delirium: Dead By Dawn Blu-ray, but it sure if a blast. Lots of fun to be had with this release, particularly if horror films are your bag, and the presentation is pretty nice. The VHS trailers are also a nice touch, helping to set these releases apart from other trailer compilations on the market. Recommended!

Any audio glitches? When I load it up no audio. I have to re-load the disc. Same with With a Vengeance. I've encountered a few glitches on the last few Umbrella blus I've bought.

My player is a good one, but sometimes encounters glitches. While annoying I just have to re-load the discs. Some other glitches I've encountered on other Umbrella blus on multiple players is playback is fine. But when I hit stop, screen goes black and player locks up.
