Free Inside is the first official 7†record from Richmond, Virginia's Bleach Everything, a new band made up of four mysterious guys named Brent on vocals, Graham on guitar, Kelly on bass and vocals and Ryan on drums.
The first track is Free Inside, and at a minute and thirteen seconds it doesn't waste any time. We get some primal drumming, sludgy bass and off kilter guitar to set the tone and then when the vocals kick in you can't help but get into this one, a Poison Idea inspired hardcore punk track with an anthemic chorus and a solid beat behind it.
Track two is Sons Of Hecate and at a minute and forty-three seconds it's a bit longer. The standard that was set with the first track is continued here, it's nasty, angry, and not afraid to get in your face. Killer drumming here, great backing vocals on the chorus and it builds to a satisfyingly unhappy ending but not before we get a surprisingly rhythmic breakdown in the last third of the song.
Up next, the final offering - Facehugger! This one heads nine seconds past the two minute mark but again, it's fast and mean and to the point, and yes, given that it references getting acid in your face and things getting into your body it's a pretty safe bet that Alien was on the band's collective mind when they wrote this. It's a pretty great song - there's a part where the drums get to shine a bit and it almost sounds like military style drumming, which is probably in keeping with the whole 'space marines/Alien' motif. Or maybe I'm over thinking it but it worked for me.
These guys play hardcore well. They don't screw around but at the same time they know what they're doing with their instruments. This isn't a sloppy record, in fact it's pretty tight, but there's a raw energy at work here that you've got to respect and appreciate.
