The Movie:
Directed by Jean-Claude Roy under his Patrick Aubin alias, Couple Seeking Sex Slaves was made by Alpha France in 1979 under the title Couple Cherche Esclaves Sexuels but is better known in North America as Serviced With A Smile.
The story follows a wealthy married couple - a businessman (Hubert Géral) and his beautiful wife Barbara (Brigitte Lahaie). They're collectively into the idea of spicing up their marriage, though the chemistry they show together before they embark on this collective journey of sexual awakening doesn't seem to want for much. Barbara is a pretty insatiable woman, however, so with her husband's okay, she starts… experimenting. Porno movies and dirty magazines arrive in the mail, and while that's a nice start, soon she wants more.
As the story unfolds, she obviously fools around with her old man but so too does she bring in a newly hired butler (Alban Ceray), and then later his girlfriend (Nicole Natte ), another friend (Dominique Aveline) and after that her husband's secretary (Marie-Claude Viollet) and then a few more of his co-workers. She keeps pretty busy, but again, her appetite is so voracious that, well, that's the whole point of this endeavor in the first place.
That's about all that there is to the story - it's about as simple as the come, the real draw here is that Lahaie is in pretty much all of the scenes. She's in fine form here, performing with that sort of realistic enthusiasm that she shows in her best films and that make her as watchable as she is in her long running adult film career. You never really get the feeling that she's 'faking it' in this picture. While there have been one or two scenes in some of her other films where you can tell she's maybe not one hundred percent committed to whatever carnal act she may have been required to do on set that day, that's not the case in this picture. At least it never seems that way - she seems to be having a good time and enjoying herself to the utmost of her abilities. This type of performance always does a way better job of generating genuine heat compared to more stereotypically 'porny' scenes, the kind common in modern smut with all the over the top moaning and groaning done in an effort to convince us that they aren't just in it for the money.
But we're getting off track here. The rest of the ladies do nice work here as well. Marie-Claude Viollet is a stone cold fox and very nice to watch in action and Nicole Natte is no slouch in the looks department either. As it is with most of the Alpha France titles, this film is nicely shot and features a decent score. There are nice costumes and locations used throughout the film and the production values are consistently top notch. But again, the real draw is Brigitte, and her fans should consider this one pretty essential.
Video/Audio/Extras:
Couple Seeking Sex Slaves arrives on MOD/DVD-R in 1.85.1 non-anamorphic widescreen, which would appear to be the movie's original aspect ratio. The image is a little soft but stable enough though there are times where the blacks get muddy and contrast blooms. Colors look okay even if they do occasionally look shift a bit. There is a bit of visible print damage here and there and there are some minor compression artifacts throughout the presentation as well. This is perfectly watchable, but not a particularly remarkable transfer.
The disc includes an English language Dolby Digital Mono track as well as a French language option but no subtitles to accompany it. The dialogue is pretty muffled on the English track and there are times where it is hard to understand, so be prepared to adjust the volume up and down throughout the movie. Some minor hiss creeps into the mix at times as well.
No extras on the disc at all.
The Final Word:
Couple Seeking Sex Slaves doesn't feature the adult film world's greatest story but it does feature one of its greatest actresses at the top of her game and in a film that affords her a whole lot of screen time doing what she does best. The presentation won't blow you away but fans of Ms. Lahaie should consider this one required viewing.
