The finale of the 6-part story, “Lost Coastlinesâ€, puts Fabian and Jezebel on the Island of Dreams and the Tempest is coming; there needs to be some sort of tribute paid. Fabian is after the soul of his sister and he is forced to prove himself in battle against a Caliban, some supernatural creature. It's mean, whatever it is. Fabian has to kill the beast in order to save his sister's soul or save the lives of his two companions. This will of course be a difficult decision either way, IF he even makes it past the witch's Caliban. And uh oh…the Caliban isn't exactly a stranger to Fabian.
No matter what the man chooses, he ultimately will be the one to suffer, which will just pile on to his already guilty conscience. He has no choice in the matter of fighting, and will surely need the help of his Dreamstone-powered literary spirits to survive. The issue brings more origin material for Fabian Gray, exposure to his very dark side, and an epilogue setting up the next arc.
The big finale to the story delivers a big fist fight played out in grand fashion, with outstanding work by Chris Mooneyham. This insides boast some big splash page action with the fight taking most of the issue. His Joe Kubert style is such a welcome look and should bring fans of Kubert's work some flashback sensations. And there feels like some John Romita Jr. influence in there too. At any rate, his work is so fitting for Frank Barbiere's story, and the whole book has a 70s-retro sense while at the same time manages to make the pulp-story/serial drama incredibly gratifying. This is some kick-ass, high-adventure stuff and is 100% recommended.
