  • The Goon #44

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Released on: November 27, 2013

The Goon, now mostly en espanol!

Seriously, though, you could write this series in any language and it would still be one of the most enjoyable comics in existence currently.

The story this time around features The Goon and Franky headed to Mexico with a shipment of clocks filled with illegal hooch - because, as The Goon points out, Mexicans love fine clockwork and booze, apparently. As they stop at the border, though, the guard is suspicious and also, it soon turns out, their truck had an unwanted passenger. The Lizard Man (or Hombre Lagarto) guzzles some of the alcohol. He then makes his escape, to hump local dogs.

But the locals are soon on to him and his schemes and want nothing to do with him. And yet they appeal to him to leave them alone but he will not be satisfied, as he is seeking enormous breasts. He soon spies out a lovely and tries to escape with her but the townsfolk and The Goon are having none of that. At this point, then, Tom Waits and Lil' John interrupt to explain that they have no idea what's going on.

Legarto Hombre will not be denied, though, and he hypnotizes his lovely at night. He again tries to escape with her but The Goon and Franky are there to put an end to his schemes. This leaves Frankie to salivate over the woman and Legarto Hombre to sing his sad song of desperation.

Insane, over-the-top and still lovable, this mostly Spanish-language edition of The Goon does not disappoint. Powell's artwork is still top-notch and finding a new way to play with the titular character and the word he inhabits is just plain joy to read. Try turning the pages and NOT have the smile on your face grow wider - we dare ya'.
