  • Star Wars #11

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Released on: November 13, 2013

Another entry for the Star Wars universe but, this time, much more inside the existing canon as its events occur shortly after the Battle of Yavin and the destruction of the Death Star.

Leia brashly leads her squadron against the star destroyer Devastator while Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles escape their Empire captors by stealing away in TIE fighters, part of the squadron accompanying the star destroyer. Passions run high as Luke and Wedge make their escape and then join Leia's squadron to take on the Empire's forces.

Meanwhile, an agent of Darth Vader's named Birra Seah realizes that she's lost Luke and thus failed the Dark Lord and seeks instead to escape on her own and get away from Vader. Elsewhere, Han and Chewbacca enter into an uneasy alliance with another rogue trader, seeking to restock the Rebels' weapons supply.

Many familiar characters abound, grounding this series pretty soundly for fans of the Star Wars series and universe. The action comes often and heavily, a bit heavy-handedly but still crisp and fast. Brian Wood's dialog leaves a little to be desired but the story he's crafting is interesting enough to keep interest in the story going. Carlos D'Anda's artwork is pretty amazing here, offering up some impressive large-panel battle scenes in grand detail.

Star Wars just seems to be the gift that keeps on giving as Dark Horse seems able to mine every last vein of creativity from that universe, polishing it all pretty well for presentation.
